Organisation of the School
At Newnham St Peter’s, we are a small, nurturing school with a strong family ethos. As a mixed-year group school, we organise our classes flexibly to meet the needs of each cohort of children. This means that, depending on numbers and individual needs, pupils may be in single year group classes or mixed year group classes.
Pupil Admissions and Class Structure
-
Our Published Admission Number (PAN) is 20, which means we offer up to 20 Reception places each academic year.
-
Due to our small size, the number of children in each year group can vary. This may mean that a year group is:
-
Taught as a single-year class
-
Or as part of a mixed-year group class, e.g. Year 1/2 or Year 3/4
-
-
We carefully consider the learning needs, age, and development of every child when making class arrangements.
-
In some cases, children from the same year group may be split across different classes to ensure the best environment for their progress.
Our Bespoke Curriculum
We pride ourselves on delivering a bespoke, child-centred curriculum. No matter which class your child is in:
-
Every child is taught all the required objectives and targets for their year group across every subject.
-
Our carefully planned progression ensures that key knowledge and skills are built on year by year.
-
Staff work closely together to monitor and support each child’s progress, ensuring full coverage of the National Curriculum from Reception through to Year 6.
Even in mixed-year classes, our teaching is targeted, differentiated, and responsive—designed around the child, not just their age.
Stages of Primary Education
We follow the structure of primary education in England:
-
Foundation Stage: Pre-School and Reception
-
Key Stage 1 (KS1): Years 1 and 2
-
Key Stage 2 (KS2): Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
Each stage has its own focus and set of curriculum expectations, and we support every child to make progress at their own pace through each phase.
Our School Day
We believe in providing a calm, structured, and purposeful school day that allows for both academic focus and creative exploration.

At Newnham St Peter’s, we make it our mission to place each child at the heart of everything we do—ensuring they are known, nurtured, and challenged throughout their time with us.
